ARTIST STATEMENT

Jamea Naje’ Marlowe is a multidisciplinary artist, educator, and creative entrepreneur from Clover, S.C. Whose work explores the intersections of womanhood, motherhood, and self-preservation. A former elementary art educator, she spent years championing creative expression for children of color—using art to empower, affirm, and amplify their voices. Her early work reflected the inequities she witnessed in education, where access, representation, and artistic freedom were often denied to Black and Brown children.

As her life evolved, so did her artistic practice. Now a wife and mother, Jamea’s work has become more personal, delving into themes of care, identity, and the radical necessity of self-love. Her art reflects her transformation while also honoring the complex ways women—especially Black women—balance nurturing others with caring for themselves. Through bold textures, layered narratives, and vibrant compositions, she creates work that is both a sanctuary and a call to action, reminding women they are worthy of rest, joy, and the love they freely give.

Jamea is also the founder of The Broken Crayon LLC, a Charlotte-based mobile art studio committed to making creativity accessible for all ages. Through workshops, events, and hands-on programming, The Broken Crayon brings art into communities as a space for healing, connection, and expression.

Her work has appeared in galleries, public art projects, and community spaces—reflecting her commitment to art as both a personal practice and a shared experience. Whether through her mixed-media pieces, paintings, or arts education, Jamea creates with the intention of uplifting, inspiring, and holding space for stories that deserve to be seen.
